Q: When does the fall soccer season begin?
A: The 2013 Fall soccer season officially begins August 1st.  Games will begin August 24, 2013.

Q:
When will my child hear from a coach?
A: Registered players will hear from a coach at the beginning of the season. If you do not receive a call by the middle of August, Dawn Nault (
registrar@bgysa.org) at 626-GOBG. Please don't call before then, many coaches are on vacation in the summer and will call you as soon as they can.

Q:
Do you provide any team listings on your website?
A: We will not list the team assignments online.  You can view your child’s individual team assignment in their GotSoccer player account.

Q: Can I request a coach, practice day/times, friends etc?
A: We cannot form teams based on coaching preference, practice day/time or any other reason.  We will keep siblings together if they are playing in the same division (unless requested otherwise); parents coaching their children; and sponsors sponsoring their children’s  team.

Q:
Can anyone coach a team?
A: Anyone can volunteer to coach a recreational soccer team and you don't need to know a lot about soccer to coach. Coach training is provided. If you would like to coach a team, please register on-line and fill out the Volunteer registration form. BGYSA had over 75 teams last year which means we need many volunteers to make this program successful.

Q: I’d like to sponsor my child’s team, how do I do this?
A: Please fill out the Sponsorship form located on our website and mail it to: BGYSA, PO Box 235, Chepachet, RI 02814

Q:
How early can my child begin playing soccer?
A: BGYSA begins with as early as an Under 5 age division. Your child must turn 4 on or before July 31, 2013. This will be an introductory program which involves fun and games within the scope of soccer play. The children will hopefully develop some independence while having fun on the soccer field.

Q:
When do the games begin?
A: The first scheduled games will begin on August 24th, and will run until the end of October.

Q:
What days are games played on?
A: All games are played mainly on Saturday but may be held on Sunday if games are rescheduled due to weather conditions. Game times will vary week to week.

Q:
Where are the games played?
A: All games will be held at the BGYSA Soccer Complex located on Rte. 44 in Glocester.

Q:
How long are game times?
A: Games are one hour in length. For the under 6 age division, the first half hour is for practice, and the second half hour is the game. The Under 5 age group will not have formal games, it will operate more in a camp format.

Q:
How often do coaches practice and where do they practice?
A: Coaches may hold one or more practices during the week, with the time of practices to be determined by the coach since they are volunteering their time.

Q: My child barely misses the date of birth cut-off, can they play in the division with their friends/classmates?
A: Unfortunately no.  We do not allow for the playing up or down in a division based on any reason (size or ability) other than allowing a TOPS player to play in the recreational league.  BGYSA does not make the age divisions but rather follows what SRI and US Youth Soccer have set forth.

Q:
What is my child provided with from the league?
A: The equipment that is provided to each player is as follows:

·          Under 5 and Under 6 age division - shirt, shorts, socks, and size 3 soccer ball

·          Under 7 and 8 age divisions - shirt, shorts, and socks

·          Under 10 thru Under 15 - shirt and socks

Q: What size soccer ball does my child need?
A: The size soccer ball depends on their age, the specifics are:

·          Under 5, Under 6, Under 7, and Under 8 age division- size 3 soccer ball

·          Under 10 and Under 12 age division - size 4 soccer ball

·          Under 15 - size 5 soccer ball

Q: Do I need to purchase anything to prepare for the soccer season?
A: All players are required to wear shinguards, which you must provide. Many children also wear soccer cleats but they are not required, children can wear sneakers. Shinguards are mandatory and must be worn at all practices and games.

Q: How much is the registration fee?
A: Registrations received and paid before May 25, 2013 will be $65 with a family maximum of $160.  Registration fees must be paid by May 25, 2013. Registraions and payments received after May 25, 2013 will be charged an additional $10.  All payments must be received by June 22, 2013.  Registrations that have not been paid by June 22 will be removed.  The registration fee is subject to change every year.

How will I know what my child's team schedule is?

Q:
My child would like to referee this year, what does he/she have to do?
A: There are mandatory referee classes held (RI State Referee Committee for course dates/times). Any child that is 11 years old is eligible to become a referee. Referee schedules will be posted on the BGYSA website (http://www.bgysa.org) every week during the season. There will be a certification fee involved for anyone wanting to become a referee which is due at the first class.

Q:
Are games played during inclement weather?
A: Games are played in the rain but if conditions warrant games to be cancelled, cancellations will be posted on the BGYSA web site. Coaches will be notified also by email, as soon as possible. Coaches are to notify their players. Make-up games will be scheduled for a later date, but cannot be guaranteed.

Q: My child has decided not to play but I already paid…can I get a refund?
A:
Any requests received between July 1, 2013 and August 23, 2013 will be issued a refund via check at 50% of the registration fee.  There will be no refunds issued after August 23, 2013.
